Users will have to first add your bank account to the service to get started with payments on Whatsapp. UPI operates mainly with your phone number, and with all major banks in India, the service works. The best thing is that you will be able to use the payments feature inside Whatsapp even if you do not have a UPI account set up with your bank, as it will build a UPI ID for you. Here's What you need to be secure of: 

  1. From the device manager or home screen, open Whatsapp.
  2. Find the menu for the activity overflow (three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner).
  3. Press Payements option.




  • Click on Add a new method of payment.
  • Choose to agree and keep getting started. 
  • From the list, select your bank. This should be your main UPI account, preferably.




  • Your phone number will need to be checked now. Make sure the Whatsapp number you are using is the same number that your bank account has registered. To authentic your bank account, touch verifies via SMS. 
  • Hit Allow Whatsapp to check that the sim card is the one that your account is registered with.
  • To confirm your account, tap allows again for WhatsApp to submit.



  • For Your bank, Whatsapp will now check and pull up all accounts associated with your number. To finish setting up payments, pick the one you would like to use. 
  • To finish setting up Whatsapp pay, click done.  
  • The payment form specified on the payment page can now be seen.
